In the latest twist to a scandal that has left woodworking hobbyist and enthusiast in despair, the Woodworker's Workers Union (WWU) has announce strike action starting immediately as talks between union leaders and publishing companies broke up earlier this week.
The shortage of woodwork plans has been felt for as long as a year back when woodworkers announced that they would not be giving their plans away for free anymore.
Johnny, a beginner at woodworking, has searched up and down for a pattern to make a crib for his infant son that has outgrown a cradle, which he made himself several months ago, "It’s so hard to
find plans nowadays, I search the library all the time and all I can find there are old books the use archaic techniques and tools that don't exist any longer, who has manual augers and hand held shavers in their workshops?". Johnny told the Woodworking Plan Gopher. “I have no money to buy those expensive plans that are offered all over the internet”. He added.
The turmoil has been that WWU members are seeking better compensation for their work and more control over what is published on the internet for free. Free plans are a big profit taker for the people that work hard making the woodworking projects to then publish them for a profit.
Since the outcry for free woodworking plans has been loud and intense, the Woodworking Plan Gopher has taken to himself to do a complicated task, assemble the biggest free woodworking plans database in the history of the world so all the penny pinching woodworker wannabes can easily and feasibly make whatever wooden artefact they wish. Or at best just assemble some sort of jump platform where they can click on a link that takes them to someone else’s free internet published plan.
Doing a quick search on mayor Internet search engines results in approximately eight million results for the keywords of "woodworking plans" and "free woodworking plans" which means that there is an incredible large amount of plans out there, apparently, but very likely many of the results are pages pointing to the same plan over and over. For those alike the Gopher who spend hundreds of hours searching for plans already know the true amount of free accessible plans on the Internet are in the hundreds, and only a few are of usable quality where you can follow the plan and get the advertised results. So to all the other woodworking resources sites claiming thousands or millions of plans on their database, hogwash!
The Woodworking Plan Gopher now presents the results of his works, well what so far of it. Please note that most of this is work in progress and there might be some links that need to be weeded out that have nothing to do with woodworking.
